I've recently posted a new screenshot for FCotW2 on Twitter, guess I might as well post it here too. As you can see, graphics are still not my strong side, but I am trying to add a little detail here and there compared to part 1. All the screenshots are work in progress, so they might still change 'till the final version.
Time for a small update!
Work on FCotW Chapter 2 is progressing nicely. Currently I am mostly working on the backgrounds - I've completed some really cool locations recently and even if there isn’t much to do yet, simply strolling around in them is quite fun already. Orignally I planned to have all the background art finished by the end of the year, but I guess it might take me a bit longer than that. Anyways, here’s a first screenshot from a pivotal scene early in the game: Playing FCotW1 and stuck with one of the many crazy puzzles? No idea what hoops that sadistic game designer (speak: ME) wants you to jump through? Don't fret, and don't throw your computer out of the window yet! I have the solution to all your FCotW-related problems: by popular demand I've written a comprehensive walkthrough for the first chapter of "Far Corners of the World", including all these pesky bonus points you've never found. Now you can go back and get them all, in order to watch the super-secret extra ending - which also is super-short, so don't say I didn't warn you. The walkthrough can be found HERE.
Since I’ve now started this little blog I better start by explaining what will be posted here.
Recently I released the first chapter of the game series „The Far Corners of the World“ – hereafter abbreviated FCotW1. The game was first announced in December 2009 in the AGS forums and I’ve also talked a bit about its development on Twitter: wbentoch. As part of the game development I always planned to have a small web site where not only the games themselves can be downloaded but where you will also find ongoing updates about the development process. The latter is what this blog is mainly about. I don’t expect many people to have an interest in my joys and woes as a hobby adventure game developer, but a) I really enjoy reading developer diaries myself, so it’s only fair to offer one for people who think likewise and/or enjoy the FCotW series, b) it might prove interesting for people who want to hop into indie game development themselves and c) it’s a good way to collect my thoughts and record my own progress. As for the frequency of updates, I have a full time job and my share of other real life duties, so game development and updates on the blog are confined to a few hours per week. Still, for now I plan to have at least one short update every week. Currently I'm working on an extensive walkthrough for FCotW1 which will be published here in a few days. I also have some first in-game screenshots for FCotW2 ready, which I plan to share with you soon. But all in due time! Welcome to this little site! „The Far Corners of the World Chapter 1“ has been finally released, so I figured it was time to go online with an official website. Well, here we are! Feel free to look around the shiny new site, read the FAQ, download the game of course and discuss it in the forums if you like. Of course you can also drop me a comment or email if you want, your feedback is always appreciated. Cheers!
